Hello Everyone! Can't believe our trip is already coming to an end! We'd like to thank everyone who prayed for our team during this great adventure and let you know that God has used us and He will continue to!
World Cup fever reached its highest level yet as on Saturday we played a soccer match with the kids from Chisomo, and later that night the US played Ghana, the last African team in the tournament. Karen and I (Kyle) made a wager that if Ghana won, we would do all the dishes for lunch on Monday, and so after another US soccer disappointment, we found out just how hard it is to wash the traditional Zambian Dish of nshima (sheema) off plates.
After our exciting and exhausting soccer game, we had Church in the nearby village of Kapompa on Sunday. Our friends from the YWAM DTS ran the service and did an awesome job, the service was so alive and thought provoking. The rest of Sunday was going to the market and then making fajitas as we mourned/"celebrated" the fact that Karen G. and Jackie had to leave us on Monday morning! Hopefully they are sleeping in their own beds by now :)
The first part of this week has been really great as we feel closer to and more comfortable with the kids than ever! on Monday we helped paint the front wall of the drop in center, and then headed to the shelter and had a great time with the kids. I taught a Bible lesson on Philippians 2 and then we had a wheelbarrow race tournament, followed by the kids singing worship songs, both traditional Zambian and Western. The song time was especially touching to us. OK Gotta go! Hope you all are looking forward to Independence Day!

Happy Birthday Chisomo!
Buanji!! (Hello in Njunja)
So the past two days have been a lot cooler and we've been experiencing a Zambia style Winter :). I have to admit I've for gone the sunrise for a nice warm sleeping bag in the mornings tee hee.
To give everyone an update, we left Livingstone Sunday morning after playing, not just petting but really playing with two adolescent lions named Luigi (male) and Losi (which means Lioness), as well as three full grown cheetahs! It was unbelievable! The power you can just feel from being in the presence of these amazing creatures was phenomenal. Every move they made, my heart would jump or react and it was something I've never before felt, such a cool way to fully experience Livingstone and this trip. No wonder our God is paralleled to such a creature in "Narnia". After our 7+ hour bus ride back to Lusaka, and not to mention a GREAT weekend tie for the U.S. in the World cup, our team was ready to get back to the kids at Chisomo and to re-connect with our brothers and sisters on base. Monday the day was spent at Chisomo, some of us stayed behind to recover and take a Sabbath, but things got a bit harder as one of our teammates "Wayne" had to say good bye to the kids. It's amazing because we each connect and engage deeply with different kids, and saying goodbye was really tough for some of these guys and Wayne. It's difficult because when they face a lot of fears and have had so much experience with abandonment, hurt and rejection that leaving can be so painful, and not quite knowing when or if God willingly we'll be able to see each other again makes things hard. Please pray that we would be effective in our communication with these kids and with ourselves. It really puts the Truth in perspective that God is alone the Sustainer, Comforter and one Who can fully meet our needs. He is always with us, always loves us and alone is the perfect love that never fails us. Please pray for the kids hearts to understand this and us as well! Pray that we as representatives and missionaries communicate and show this well to them in our time here!
Yesterday was fun, half the team went to Chisomo (the residential center) and 4 of us joined the morning women's Bible study in town with some of the YWAM team. It was incredible because here we are as women across the globe doing the same thing we do in the States and everywhere. Coming together in fellowship, enjoying laughter, scones, coffee and fellowship all connected by our faith and love! Even more fascinating was that we had women from all over togethor, China, England, India, Zimbabwe and even Michigan!! Our God is so HUGE and diverse but still so consistant and faithful! We read through and discussed Ecclesiastes and the acceptance versus resistance to seasons in our lives. It was awesome! We then met up with the rest of the team at Chisomo and had a great Bible study lesson and team building game....these kids are hilarious and I just love how much joy they have for eachother and for us. They've really let us in and it's been just so fun just to engage in their lives and continue to love them as if they where my own brother!
Today is Kunda, one of the older boy's birthdays. He seems to be having a bit of a hard time with it as I'm sure we all can relate, birthdays bring up many different emotions. He was talking about his family a lot yesterday and I'm sure it can bring up some hard feelings. These kids go through birthdays without the chance to be celebrated, spend with any family etc... Well, our team prayed and put our heads together last night and we decided to bake some brownies and celebrate!!! Today we're not just going to celebrate Kunda, but ALL of their birthdays! Psalm 139 is such a testament of the TRUTH that no matter what we are each created out of Love and with special plans and purposes in mind! We have a Father who celebrates our birth every day and loves us in ways no one else can! We're hoping to express that to them today with a party!! Please continue to pray that this will be expressed to them through us and through our love, that we continue to love beyond ourselves and that also includes loving one another as a team!
More to always come of course, but love you all!!

Seven Wonders
Hi All!
This weekend was the last for our team as a whole...three of our members are headed home this coming week and so we took the weekend (Friday-Sunday) to spend time witnessing one of the Seven Wonders, Victoria Falls, seeing a safari and get this, no joke we will pet lions tomorrow morning! WHAT?! God is good, and there's nothing like seeing His glory evident in creation! If you are reading this and ever have a heart to see Africa, serve and see some of His glory in this place, pray about it and go forward!! He provides and there's nothing more transforming and life changing! Before we left, we also got a great tour of Chisomo hospital which is a hospital opening next month to serve the children from the streets and partnering with Chisomo orphanage! It was such a tranquil place and I can't wait to post pictures! Please pray for their funding and provision as they have been so obedient in trusting (the vision started 4 years ago) and they are so close!! They are also in need of medical missionaries and help, if you or anyone you know has a planting in your heart! Please also pray and keep this in mind!!! We've also gotten to spend time here in Livingstone with the local YWAM base and mission team here, they're awesome and it's incredible to see even some cultural difference with the people just a town over! We head back to Lusaka tomorrow and have a full week ahead of serving with Chisomo and assisting in the opening of the new drop in center location. We also will partner with the YWAM outreach in a local village doing fellowship and Bible study, as well as visit a women's small group! We're praying to hopefully visit "House of Moses" a baby orphanage, as well as have a soccer match this Saturday for the kids! Please pray for our team, that we would be selfless and Christlike in our outreach, with eachother and in our faith! That we would continue to be the Light and love here in Zambia and open to what the Lord has for us here in this place....HE is SO good!!!
More to come....

On the Streets....
Hello!!
Unfortunately I'm limited on time because we're wanting to get to Chisomo as soon as we can today! (internet is slow and getting to the cafe has been a trek lol)
I just want to update you all that our team has been growing so much this week! God has been breaking down so many of our walls and comforts and although it's challenging at times, the result on the other end of things has been incredible. I'm reminded of the verse of being hard pressed but not crushed...
Please keep us in your prayers as I KNOW they've been answered in that not one of us hasn't been affected and grown allready from this mission! Praise God!
Along with that, last week some of us went to the street and spent time with the kids (all boys) living on the street. Most where high from huffing glue or the gasoline, but regardless of their state, it was incredible to see the over all response from love. My heart has never broken in such a way like this before and I feel so blessed and pray to continue to be so...
This week we also moved the local drop in center to their new location. It's a beautiful newer, safer and more spacious building and it was great to sort all the donations.
There's so much more to express and explain, but limited time today, we're loving these kids more and more each day and please pray for us that we would continue to experience and give away the Heart of God to these kids!!
More to come soon....

Greetings!
Sitting here in the local shopping center "Arcades" internet cafe and reflecting on how incredibly faithful and Joyful our God is!
Our team has built some incredible unity in only this past 7 days time...it's amazing to me that you can feel like you've lived almost a years worth of experiences in such a short time.
We are still adapting and adjusting to the fact that we are in an incredibly new and different culture, from food, faces, interests and time changes. Last night was a really cool break through with the members of the local DTS who are living on the YWAM base we're staying on. Pauline is a beautiful woman who lives on base and is in charge of the Friday night program, she insisted on throwing a formal dinner and talent show where we the American team or better known as "Muzungoo's" could share some of our culture. What better way to do that, then to perform a dancing through the decades skit, it was hilarious and ended up being an entire dance party on the lawn....never would've thought I'd be dancing to "Single ladies" on the grass in Africa haha.
As for our outreach, we've just begun to make a bit of a breakthrough relationally with the kids, which is fabulous! It takes time, (understandably) for the kids in Chisomo to open up as well as ourselves too. These kids are used to rejection and have seen so much in their lives, so to gain their trust takes time. We spent most of the morning Thursday reading and working through some basic school skills. It's incredible to me to see children so eager to learn and how often I have taken my education much for granted. Simple reading and writing abilities gives these kids such an advantage in Zambia and a chance for more here, something I so will carry with me as I find myself ever complaining about those student loans....
Yesterday, (Friday) half our team went to the local drop in center and the others went to the market to shop for food this weekend. We will be making "breakfast for dinner" tonight and a fabulous Mexican fiesta tomorrow! The others helped "Mwamba", the youth or street outreach director of Chisomo with the kids at the drop in. An American missionary who lives here in Zambia and is from Arvada, CO (go figure, small world BIG God) comes regularly on Fridays to present a drug and HIV intervention program. Kind of the equivelant of our D.A.R.E. drug intervention programs. It went pretty well, I unfortunately got sick yesterday, it was sort-of a one day flu, so I stayed on base to rest.
Tomorrow we'll spend the morning visiting Pastor Aaron's church and then helping lead the kid's Bible study after wards.
Please pray for continuous protection and strength (both physical and emotional) for our team. Pray for our unity, but even further please pray that we would be broken. A verse the Lord gave me yesterday was "Break up your unplowed ground and do not sow among thorns, circumcise (set apart) yourselves to the Lord, circumcise your hearts) ~ Jeremiah 4:3-4
Please pray that not one of us on this team would go through this experience unchanged. Please pray that we would give our hearts over to God and be overwhelmed with compassion for the poor, fatherless and widowed here. That we would get outside ourselves and our comfort zones and serve with abandon following the heart beat of God for this mission!
Also, please pray for my (Crystal's) grandpa "Papa", I found out yesterday that he is in the hospital with pneumonia and is currently on a ventilator...I have felt at a loss of what to do but wait and pray. Please pray he would hold out through this and be okay, for my family going through this with him, and for peace...it's difficult and so hard to be away from all of this and feeling helpless.
Thanks all for supporting and praying for us!!
More updates to come....

We Made It!!
We made it! unfortunately we are short on time for today, and the Zambian internet cafe takes its time lol, but for all the loved ones with hearts for us and Chisomo I want to assure you that God has already led and unfolded so many great things for our team! We made it after 45+ hours of adventurous travel through Paris, Ethiopia, stop in Zimbabwe and hooray arrived safely and fully provided with luggage and welcoming crew to Lusaka!
Yesterday we spent the day getting adjusted, had delicious ice cream at the fabulous "Milky Lane" and shopped in the local mall center called Manda Hill.
Today we visited the Drop in center we helped open last year. Unfortunately the rent is too high so they are moving the center to a new location, good new though, the new place is beautiful, bigger and in a safer location! We will visit the original Chisomo tomorrow and see the old beautiful faces and some new! We're excited to continue to build and help support Pastor Aaron and Josephine the founders as well as the staff, Mwamba, Elizabeth, Lydia, Chinguaipe and Jahosaphet!
Pray for us as we continue to embrace our new home this month and love on these kids!!
Blessings and more to come!!

American followers of TEAM ZAMBiA 2010
I just listened to the Daily Audio Bible podcast read by Brian Hardin for June 8 and I couldn't believe how apropos his words were. He happens to be in Africa right now traveling in Uganda and he talks about his time on the ground there in Africa: "...no matter what your plans are, they are very likely to change, it's been a real adventure"... I wanted to share that with you in hopes it may encourage you who are waiting to get word from those you love in Zambia.
Here We Go!
Jackie and I leave in a few hours on our long trip to Lusaka. We are excited about the reunion we will experience with our friends in Lusaka, and the opportunity to serve.
Team ZAMBiA (part 1) arrived safe and sound!
Crystal sent a short note to say they made it safely and now have their team phone:
011 260 0974595472
I just tried calling though and I don't think it's activated yet.
I heard also it was a 45 hour trip for them! So they must be exhausted. Pray for refreshing and strength for them today.

DESTINATION: Lusaka, Zambia
WHEN: June 2010
UPDATE (2/28/2010): June is the most popular month to travel to Zambia. British Airways only flies to Lusaka three times a week. Therefore, most missionary fares ($2,000 and less) are already gone. Since World Cup is in South Africa in June the other possibility of flying in and out of Johannesburg isn't an option for us like it usually is.
Therefore if you'd like to go then time is of the essence! Here's what to do:
Email janiehoward@mac.com with your following info:
Here are the two teams that are going as of today:
PURPOSE: To be a representative of Christ by enriching the lives of Zambian people including and especially the vulnerable children and orphans through relationships, evangelism and service. Our team is a living testimony through our service and giving. In return, we are forever changed.
ACCOMMODATIONS: YWAM base (Youth With A Mission), Lusaka West in Zambia
OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES INCLUDE but are not limited to:
British Airways (our carrier) allows each missionary passenger to check in three 50 lb suitcases. You should plan to have one suitcase for your personal needs, and the other two filled with donations. As a team, we will organize and plan for these items. Last year we took hundreds of pairs of shoes - which met a huge need there! The children in the orphanage were ecstatic with the soccer team uniforms, soccer bags, school supplies, and more!
Believe it or not, there is a huge need for kitchen utensils and items so we hope to include these as well.
As the team serves, financial needs will become apparent and the team will be giving as the Holy Spirit leads us.
FUN:
If you want to know how big your God is, then get away from your life and its entrapments and go some place you’ve never been before to embrace yourself, embrace the culture and be used by God to serve. Open your horizons to the gloriousness and vastness of our God and be forever changed.
The economic times seem very challenging for us all right now. We have found that our kids over the years have always been able to raise the money needed to go on the mission trips they had the desire for. God blesses our efforts to serve others because He knows what an amazing work it will do in our own hearts, as well. If you have desire to come with us to Zambia, and serve be assured that desire is something placed in your heart by God and He will work the details out as you move forward. Remember God’s economy is not our economy and He can work out the financial details for us all.
JAMES 1:27 (New International Version)
27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
