UPDATE (2/28/2010): June is the most popular month to travel to Zambia. British Airways only flies to Lusaka three times a week. Therefore, most missionary fares ($2,000 and less) are already gone. Since World Cup is in South Africa in June the other possibility of flying in and out of Johannesburg isn't an option for us like it usually is.
Therefore if you'd like to go then time is of the essence! Here's what to do:
Email janiehoward@mac.com with your following info:
- Name as it appears on your passport
- Date of birth
- Dates of availability
- Cell phone number
Here are the two teams that are going as of today:
- Denver -- Departing Denver 6/8/2010; departing Lusaka 6/28/2010
- San Francisco -- Departing SF 6/5/2010; departing Lusaka 7/3/2010
PURPOSE: To be a representative of Christ by enriching the lives of Zambian people including and especially the vulnerable children and orphans through relationships, evangelism and service. Our team is a living testimony through our service and giving. In return, we are forever changed.
ACCOMMODATIONS: YWAM base (Youth With A Mission), Lusaka West in Zambia
OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES INCLUDE but are not limited to:
- Chisomo Orphanage and Drop-in Center
- Outreach to YWAM
- Encouragement to local leaders
- Ministry to orphans still living in the streets
- Rural outreach
- Infant orphans
- Speaking and singing opportunities
- Meeting the tangible needs through donations such as clothing, shoes and school supplies as well as financial support
British Airways (our carrier) allows each missionary passenger to check in three 50 lb suitcases. You should plan to have one suitcase for your personal needs, and the other two filled with donations. As a team, we will organize and plan for these items. Last year we took hundreds of pairs of shoes - which met a huge need there! The children in the orphanage were ecstatic with the soccer team uniforms, soccer bags, school supplies, and more!
Believe it or not, there is a huge need for kitchen utensils and items so we hope to include these as well.
As the team serves, financial needs will become apparent and the team will be giving as the Holy Spirit leads us.

If you want to know how big your God is, then get away from your life and its entrapments and go some place you’ve never been before to embrace yourself, embrace the culture and be used by God to serve. Open your horizons to the gloriousness and vastness of our God and be forever changed.
The economic times seem very challenging for us all right now. We have found that our kids over the years have always been able to raise the money needed to go on the mission trips they had the desire for. God blesses our efforts to serve others because He knows what an amazing work it will do in our own hearts, as well. If you have desire to come with us to Zambia, and serve be assured that desire is something placed in your heart by God and He will work the details out as you move forward. Remember God’s economy is not our economy and He can work out the financial details for us all.
JAMES 1:27 (New International Version)
27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
